The Groton Electric Light Department offers the use of the Watt Meters to customers who desire to know how much electricity individual appliances are using, or want to know if one of their appliances is running inefficiently. After using the Watt Meter on an old refrigerator, you can calculate the potential electricity savings of buying a new refrigerator. Sometimes, you can actually pay for the new appliance in a relatively short time with the energy savings.
